Call to Action for Children with Dyslexia- Wrightslaw


In this Action Alert from Wrightslaw you can sign the petition to urge Congress to support a Bill of Rights for Children with Dyslexia. You will also learn how to send an email with your comments about the proposed revision to DSM5 removing Dyslexia.

Please consider signing this petition and in other ways protesting the exclusion of the term "dyslexia" from the new DSM-V.

Wilson Fundations® Workshops


Fundations® is a multisensory and systematic phonics, spelling, and handwriting program

that benefits K-3 students in a Tier 1 or Tier 2 setting. Fundations Second Edition—published in 2012—thoroughly teaches the foundational reading skills found in college and career-ready standards, including the Common Core State Standards (print concepts, phonological

awareness, fluency, phonics and word recognition). It also strongly supports the writing and language standards, providing mastery instruction for many of the goals in each of those areas. The power of Fundations is that it incorporates the science of reading and writing in a carefully designed, multisensory, and highly integrated manner.




Just Words Introductory Workshop


Just Words® is an intervention (Tier 2) program for students in grades 4-12 and adults. It is a highly explicit, multisensory decoding and spelling program for individuals who have mild to moderate gaps in their decoding and spelling proficiency but do not require intensive intervention. It provides a curriculum for the study of word structure through the six syllable types in English and the most common Latin roots. Just Words is an appropriate intervention in daily small group or class instruction. 




Just Words® Screening and Placement Workshops


This half-day workshop reviews the process for student screening, identification, and placement into a Just Words class. It provides practice with the Test of Silent Word Reading Fluency (TOSWRF) and the Word Identification and Spelling Test (WIST). It is helpful, but not required, to bring copies of TOSWRF and WIST tests to the workshop.


This course is appropriate for individuals who will be conducting the screening and placement for the Just Words class, Just Words Facilitator and Presenter candidates, teachers teaching the class, and principals and other administrators.





Wilson Reading System® (WRS) Introductory Workshop


The Wilson Reading System® is an intensive (Tier 3) program for students in grade 2 and beyond. Based on scientific reading research and Orton-Gillingham principles, WRS is a highly-structured remedial program that directly teaches the structure of the language.

Hope Graham Program at Bancroft School in Worcester, Massachusetts, seeks independent tutors to work with students in Lower and Middle schools with Language Based Learning Differences. Building upon Bancroft’s commitment to nurture, respect, and educate diverse learners, the Hope Graham Program (HGP) at Bancroft School is designed for students with diagnosed language-based learning differences (LBLD) or dyslexia in grades two through eight. Students in the program receive individual and small group tutoring during the school day. Tutors with knowledge and experience in Orton Gillingham methodology and a flexible schedule are preferred. 




Studies for Adults:

Adults with and without dyslexia (19-30) are invited to participate in studies being conducted by the Lab for Visual Learning.

You will be asked to participate in three hours for which you will receive $60 plus a $20 bonus for complete attendance, on-time ($80 total).  One session will be a TWO-HOUR SESSION.  The other will be a ONE HOUR SESSION. Payment will be in gift cards, usually for Apple iTunes.

WHAT YOU WILL DO: In the two-hour session you will read using a handheld computing device (iPod Touch) configured in various ways.  In the one-hour session you will respond to questions or perform simple tasks (e.g., repeat a string of numbers) we use to characterize your reading, memory, and attention.  Your responses will be anonymous, and your identify will be protected by a keycode.

Stigma and Math Performance 

Researchers at CAST are studying the potential stigma of having a learning disability and its effect on math performance.  We are recruiting students in 9th and 10th grade to take surveys and do math activities during two 45-minute sessions, scheduled at the participant’s convenience. Genes, Reading, and Dyslexia

The Center for Reading and Language Research at Tufts University is conducting a study of Genes, Reading, and Dyslexia and is seeking healthy children of African-American or Latino-American descent, 10-15 years of age, who have experienced reading difficulties and/or have a diagnosis of dyslexia.  

Early Detection of Developmental Dyslexia

Researchers at Children’s Hospital in Boston are studying early detection of dyslexia in pre-reading children from infancy to kindergarten. The main goal is to find the best way to identify children at risk for developmental dyslexia at a very early age, before reading skills are even present. Participants 3 to 12 months of age and 4 to 6 years of age with or without a family history of dyslexia are being recruited.
